Top Ten Most Anticipated Movies of 2010

Alice in Wonderland Movie Poster
10. Alice in Wonderland. This reimagined sequel to the classic story, helmed by Tim Burton, promises to be (if nothing else) one of the strangest movies of the year. Having grown up, Alice returns to her Wonderland to overthrow the tyrannical Red Queen.

Featuring Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter, Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen, Mia Wasikowski as Alice, and Anne Hathaway as the White Queen. In theaters Friday, March 5, 2010.
Prince of Persia Movie Poster
9. Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. We're skeptical when video games become films (hey, not everything can be Tomb Raider). But Disney is banking on Persia to become its new adventure franchise à la Pirates of the Caribbean.

Jake Gyllenhaal stars as Prince Dastan, who must stop a sandstorm from destroying the world. Also with Gemma Arterton, Ben Kingsley and Alfred Molina. In theaters Friday, May 28, 2010.
Robin Hood Movie Poster
8. Robin Hood. There's the horrible chance that this film could end up being Gladiator in tights, but we're counting on director Ridley Scott to give us a fresh, new take on this familiar tale of the expert archer who becomes a legendary hero.

Starring Russell Crowe as Robin Hood, Mark Strong as Sir Godfrey (wait, who?), Matthew Macfadyen as the Sheriff of Nottingham and Cate Blanchett as Maid Marian. In theaters Friday, May 14, 2010.

Toy Story 3 Movie Poster
7. Toy Story 3. While we're not huge on Disney sequels in general (does anyone even know how many Cinderellas or Lion Kings we're up to now?) for some strange reason, the delightful antics of Sheriff Woody and Buzz Lightyear never seem to grow old.

When Andy leaves for college, the toys face a new set of challenges. Our favorite voice talents are all back, too, including Tim Allen, Tom Hanks and Joan Cusack. In theaters Friday, June 18, 2010.
Oceans Movie Poster
6. Oceans. While there has been relatively little hype surrounding this film, we suspect that it might be one of our favorite movies of the year.

Debuting on Earth Day 2010, this ecological documentary/drama promises some of the most thrilling footage of the sub-aquatic world's vanishing wonders ever brought to life on the big screen. In theaters Thursday, April 22, 2010.
Inception Movie Poster
5. Inception. We were tempted to write off this film at "Leonardo DiCaprio," but the trailer won us over. The story has been kept pretty much under wraps, but we gather that it's a blackmail story and that the crime scene is the mind. The graphics from the trailer are a mind trip by themselves.

Directed by Chris Nolan, whose Dark Knight took in over a billion dollars worldwide, we're expecting a blockbuster. Also with Ken Watanabe and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. In theaters Friday, July 26, 2010.
Twilight Eclipse Movie Poster
4. Twilight: Eclipse. Before you cry foul, we are not fans of this franchise. We didn't like the books and thought the first movie sucked. But with New Moon, the Twilight saga seemed like it might finally be finding its groove. We're hopeful that the third installment will pay off cinematically in a way that both lovers and haters can enjoy.

The main cast, including Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner, return for this next chapter. In theaters Friday, June 30, 2010.
Clash of the Titans Movie Poster
3. Clash of the Titans. For those of us dying for more epic battle scenes à la 300, this remake looks to fit the bill perfectly. Sam Worthington stars as Perseus, a mortal who wages war against the god of the Underworld. And as for visual effects, the preview of the Kraken is jaw-droppingly stunning.

Co-starring Liam Neeson as Zeus, Gemma Arterton as Io and Ralph Fiennes as Hades. In theaters Friday, March 26, 2010.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows Movie Poster
2. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows: Part I. It's the beginning of the end and we couldn't be more excited. Harry and crew gear up for the final battle against Lord Voldemort's forces of darkness. While splitting the last book into two movies might have been financially motivated, we're betting Harry fans will ultimately benefit from a more complete version of the final chapter.

Starring Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint. In theaters Friday, November 19, 2010.
Voyage of the Dawn Treader Movie Poster
1. Voyage of the Dawn Treader. We've long counted on the Narnia films to satisfy our craving for otherworld fantasy. It looked as though this nautical third volume might be dead in the water, but with a December release finally set, Dawn Treader is Featured Topic's Most Anticipated Film of 2010. Lucy, Edmund and a cranky guest return to Narnia to sail with Prince Caspian to the edge of the world.

In theaters Friday, December 10, 2010.

Fantastic. I really enjoyed all of the blurbs about them. Can't wait to see them. Oh, are you going to write a follow-up after each of these comes out?
